The exhibition curated by Hasan Bülent Kahraman, with a scientific consultancy by Luca Molinari, is a survey on a selection of projects by Instanbul-based firms Tabanlioğlu Architects and Mimarlar + Han Tümertekin, two of the most brilliant architecture designers in the Turkish contemporary scenario committed on an international scale.
“As Tabanlıoğlu and Tümertekin design their buildings, also address different geographies and shape different identities and sense of belonging – they address the complexity of the space issue as an act of existence between action and physics, vision and abstraction.” With these words the curator confirms AKBANK SANAT gallery attention and sensitivity on the arts and disciplines that make contemporary Turkey. With the mission to be “the place where change never ends” Akbank Sanat Gallery undertakes in fact a reflection on the themes that foster the architectural practice and its ability to become a substancial result out of a fruitful dialogue between the author’s personal reservoir and design approach and the context, an identity tool that has brought Murat Tabanlıoğlu to design Dakar Congress Center in Senegal or Han Tümertekin to conceive the Turkish Mission Buildings in Strasbourg, France.
Through a selection of drawings, sketches, maquettes, notes, samples of building materials and photographs of completed or under construction architectures the visitor get to know the processes and main themes that lead the creative worlds of the two acknowledged Turkish firms.
