The catalogue, curated by Luca Molinari and published on the occasion of the eponymous exhibition at Palazzo Citterio, celebrates the cultural, architectural, and social history of the monumental Brera complex, which has played a central role in the life of Milan and its communities over the past five centuries.

This ambitious project aims to offer a unified representation of a building with a layered past, where, for centuries, prestigious institutions have coexisted and collaborated alongside the Pinacoteca and the Braidense National Library: the Academy of Fine Arts, the Istituto Lombardo, the Botanical Garden, the Astronomical Observatory, along with the Amici di Brera, the Società Storica Lombarda, and the Ricordi Archive.

Through contributions by, among others, Gianni Biondillo, Maria Vittoria Capitanucci, Luca Molinari, Ruggero Moncada di Paternò, Francesco Rephisti, and Chiara Rostagno, the volume traces the succession of stories and visions that have shaped Brera, as well as the cultural mission at the heart of the Grande Brera project: to place Brera at the center of cultural life in Milan and across Italy—as a place of thought and design, and a home open to all who inhabit contemporary cities.
