Ever since Luca Molinari was appointed Scientific Director of the Museum, M9 – Museo del ‘900 last October, the Museum has undertaken a revolutionary process.

Such process aims at defining it not only the first Italian Museum of the material history of the 20th century, but also an “open house to the future” and at the same time a “laboratory of contemporaneity”.

The reopening of M9 was a silent and powerful provocation that saw the installation of 600 tree species typical of the Veneto region on the third floor of the museum.

“Foresta M9 was born with the idea of creating both an oasis of peace and serenity in a difficult moment for all of us and a clear and provocative symbol of the rebirth of M9 after eleven months of silence. This first intuition was immediately mirrored in the centuries-old Venetian tradition that has protected the forests of the plains as a place of production under the government of the Serenissima and as a symbol of its communities, resisting also to that model of widespread urbanization that has eroded these great examples of biodiversity in the second half of the 20th century. Indeed, from then on, they were reduced to the unacceptable limit of 0.01% of the original extension! […] Forest M9 is therefore not a simple, sensational, temporary installation in the form of nature, but it is a culturally and politically oriented device aimed at restoring the meaning of a territory that is both urban and rural, crossed by flows that overlap traces of history and fragments of contemporaneity without interruption. This condition must be accepted, and the lowland forests can be the best possible witness to this pact.”
