2011 marks the fiftieth anniversary of Iris Ceramica, the company that, since 2007, promotes a yearly programme of exhibitions and events on contemporay architecture and the project culture under the artistic direction of Luca Molinari at SpazioFMG per l’Architettura gallery.
The programme starts with the second edition of COSTRUIRE SECONDO NATURA which celebrates the company production and its motto – “ecology = economics” – since 1961.

Between February and March, ITALIANS DO IT BETTER describes the work of Italian architects abroad such as the international cooperation projects by ARCò Group together with the ONG Vento di Terra which complete a school made of recycled tyres in the occupied Palestinian territories of East Jerusalem and the elementary school “Maria Grazia Cutuli” in the village of Kush Rod in Afghanistan designed by 2A+P/A, Mario Cutuli Architetto, IaN+ and ma0/emmeazero.

During Milan Design Week ARCHITECTURE AS A PIECE OF NATURE, in cooperation with Naomi Shibata, Ai Kitazawa and the Canadian director Maris Mezulis, presents three video-stories on the works and methodological approaches by Sou Fujimoto, Akihisa Hirata and Junya Ishigami, three of the youngest and most appreciated Japanese architects on the scene.

In may ITALIA PER INTERNI explores the more intimate and private spaces within public places of some Italian cities. ARCHITETTURE DEL GUSTO eventually looks at the relationship between food and architecture by examining three restaurants and unpublished results carried out by chefs, builders and designers (Park Associati, Vudafieri Saverino Partners, rgastudio)

The year ends with two important exhibitions, ENNIO BRION: COMMITTENZA D’AUTORE, and the 4th edition of MILANO WORK IN PROGRESS. The former represents a journey in the acknowledged design and architectural production of the Brion family. On exhibit all those objects that have made the brand Brionvega, and Italian design, famous all over the world and some of the most significant architecture commissions.

MILANO WORK IN PROGRESS #4 highlights four projects of mid-low scale – three buildings and the redevelopment of Loreto underground stop – as four different interventions on the fabric of the city, as opposed to the huge construction sites at the center of debate.
