After the great succes of the 2012 conference series, AMIAMO VARESE? DIALOGHI TRA ARCHITETTURA E DESIGN (Amiamo Varese? Dialogues between Architecture and Design) at Villa Litta to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Ordine degli Architetti, Pianificatori, Paesaggisti e Conservatori della Provincia di Varese, Luca Molinari and his team are invited to organize a second series of open lectures around one of their paramount subject of research. GOING PUBLIC. Gli spazi pubblici per la città del futuro (Going Public. Public spaces for the city of the future) focuses on architecture as a tool to affect and create public spaces able to mould the identity and economy of a place.
Through seven lectures with internationally renown architects urged by Luca Molinari, public space is debated as one of the most important test bed of the city to involve new communities, stage of a more and more complex relation between private and public in a deeply individual society, and as an urban feature moving conflicting feelings and interests.
Marco Muscogiuri (Alterstudio Partners), Shelley McNamara (Grafton Architects), Pietro Carlo Pellegrini, Benedetta Tagliabue (EMBT), Cino Zucchi, Winy Maas (MVRDV) and Gino Garbellini (Piuarch) tell about the projects designed by their studios dealing with public space within a specific building intended use. Passing through different typologies, from commercial to cultural, from residential to restoration, the architects argue their experience and visions of the future city.
GOING PUBLIC series has been an occasion for monographic insights and at the same time it’s been a debating observatory promoted by Varese Architects’Association about the most challenging contemporary spaces dealing with the context in the broadest sense: urban, social, historical, geographical and human.
